The Hawks were back to winning ways against a strong Hutton side in their most recent outing in the league, grabbing all three points in a dominant display over the Billericay-based side.
Harlow were off to a flying start after Terrell Egbri delivered a fantastic cross into a sprinting Denzel Effah, who’s header was denied superbly by Lamacq. Down the other end, George Vile struck a free-kick with power down the throat of James Pellin, who parried it wide for a corner.
The visitors continued to pile the pressure on Harlow, with a strike shortly after a corner traversing wide of Pellin’s goal.
Soon after Gavin Cockman struck a half-chance wide, Ishaq Ameen was picked out over the top by Terrell Egbri, taking the ball around Lamacq and going down, but no penalty was given. Instead, the Hawks’ striker was booked for simulation.
Igor Sani decided to let one fly for Hutton in an attempt to gain a first-half advantage, but it was an ambitious effort that was far from troubling James Pellin.
Desperate to provide a home lead, Terrell Egbri struck an effort after cutting outside, but it was a wild one from 18 yards, and hit the net behind the goal. Continuing to push forward, Egbri found Gavin Cockman with a left-footed in-swinging cross but, being man marked, Cockman’s header bounced over the roof of the net.
The home side were the first to put a ball in the net, as Ishaq Ameen tapped home from a Gavin Cockman headed pass, but the flag was quickly raised and the goal didn’t stand.
Lamacq proved his worth with a substantial save after Denzel Effah delivered it into a leaping Gavin Cockman in the middle, in Harlow’s first chance of the second half. Gavin’s header from close range was smothered by the Hutton goalkeeper.
Hutton came ever-so-close to breaking the deadlock themselves after a well-worked set-piece that ended with the ball being played across the face of the Harlow goal, only to be missed by all the men in yellow in the box, and eventually rolling out for a goal-kick.
In marvellous fashion, the deadlock was finally broken after Terrell Egbri did excellently well to keep the ball in, crossing it into the middle. The ball took a heavy bounce before Gavin Cockman made the crowd go wild with a bicycle kick that was simply unsavable for Lamacq, despite a top performance so far. The initial pressure had paid off, and Gavin had secured his eighth goal of the season, despite only having started 7 games to that point.
It was a nervy rest of the game for the Harlow Town supporters, who were itching for the final whistle to be blown, but there was plenty to be played yet. Hutton did not give up, and James Pellin was forced into action with a huge save after a long-shot from Hutton that was curling in the top-right corner.
The rest of the game was filled with half-chances for both sides, but there was no goalscoring success, to the delight of the home side and they held on through what felt like an eternity of added time in the circumstances to gain victory and secure their second win of the season against Hutton, winning 1-0 once again.
The Hawks continued to sit 6 points ahead of 2nd place Hackney Wick, and after their recent win, they are now just three points ahead, having played an extra game. The title race looks as though it is going to be a tasty one for the rest of the season.
