Harlow Town defeated Burnham Ramblers 4-1 today.

After what was an impeccable win on Wednesday evening against Hutton to go top of the Thurlow Nunn Division One South, a huge task faced the Hawks today, to remain there.

It wasn’t the prettiest of victories today, but having played fantastically well in the second half, and piling the pressure on the away side, they came away with the victory 4-2.

The first half started quietly, with little happening until the 15th minute, when the ball fell to Harry Carter on the edge of the box. With an open-goal, the midfielder missed the target, and Burnham got away with their mistake.

Karl Swanborough came very close to opening scoring for Burnham Ramblers with a left-footed shot that hit the side netting, with James Pellin diving towards it.

Harlow went on to miss numerous chances through Jack Zielinski (with a half chance), and then James Folkes with a left footed curling effort, before grabbing a lead just before half-time through Fred Agyemang.

Harlow’s first goal was rather scrappy, bouncing over the head of Burnham goalkeeper Jordan Hudson, but the home side didn’t complain, and went into half-time 1-0 up.

The second half was where the game really got going, with Jack Zielinski immediately keen to cause carnage for the Burnham defence, almost scoring on his left before hitting the bar, with a power-shot from outside the box.

Burnham soon equalised through a Will Hays free-kick, which he nonchalantly curled into the top-right corner to make it 1-1, but this only made Harlow fight for the win even more.

James Folkes came close with a header from a Tom Jelliman free kick, hitting it over the bar, but before long, Harlow regained their advantage after a beautiful pass from Harry Carter found Jack Zielinski, who hit a marvellous first-time finish past Hudson, making it 2-1.

The goals just kept coming for Harlow, after James Folkes headed home emphatically from a Tom Jelliman corner.

Chances from both Harry Carter and Cav Clarke went amiss before Harlow grabbed their fourth goal of the game.

Denzel Effah embarked on a powerful run down the left-hand side, getting past Rgee Manyewe before crossing it into the box. The ball struck the post and bounced straight into Jack Zielinski, bouncing off of him and into the net, making it 4-1.

Late into added time, Burnham grabbed another consolation goal, with one of the scrappiest goals of the season. In a situation resembling a scrum in rugby, 13 players were in the Harlow penalty box, and it was George Bryne who got the final touch to push it past James Pellin.

Overall, it was another great and important win for Harlow, as we look to try and win the title this season. We remain top of the league, with Hackney Wick also having won today, against Enfield Borough.

We thank you for your continued support, and hope to see you on Tuesday night, for our game against West Essex in the BBC Essex Senior Cup.
