Second-Half Hawks Strike Again In Crucial Win

Harlow Town defeated Coggeshall Town 1-3 today.

After a dominant performance last week against Enfield Borough in which Harlow Town rose to the top of the Thurlow Nunn Division One South, they continued their top run of form, coming from behind against playoff-contenders Coggeshall Town to win the game 1-3.

An unchanged team, it was an incredibly lacklustre start, with substitute Dan Heald giving away an early penalty, which was dispatched by Connor Randall, despite James Pellin getting a hand on it, to give Coggeshall the early advantage. Heald had been introduced prematurely to replace an injured Teddy Jones.

To that point, Harlow’s play had been sloppy, with numerous misplaced passes, and no real rhythm.

Towards the end of what had been a quiet first half in terms of chances created, Syrus Gordon hit a world class effort, half-volleyed past Joe Hodgson; a goal from practically nowhere that rolled back the years. In the blink of an eye, it was all square.

Very little happened after this before time was called on the first-half. Neither side had really got going, with Coggeshall Town defending well against Harlow’s pressure, and the Hawks’ football not necessarily as fluid as they would have liked. However, this would all change in the second half.

Attempting heroics in a similar fashion to his long-time teammate Syrus Gordon earlier on, Fabion Simms went for glory with an overhead kick from a corner that traversed narrowly wide of the goal. The defender had every right to do so, having scored one already this season against FC Baresi.

Ben Towler found himself a chance to shoot at the near-post but he was rapidly closed down by James Pellin, who made sure there was no chance of danger.

With the game level, and the time swiftly ticking, Harlow found the goal that they had been pushing for as Arley Barker whipped a corner into the box, and like we’ve seen numerous times since his arrival, Fred Agyemang leapt the highest and headed home, netting on his 30th birthday to give the Hawks the lead. His record is now 10 goals and 2 assists in 13 appearances for the reds.

The Hawks were quick to solidify their advantage, as Denzel Effah found Jack Haley at the back-post, who headed into the underside of the crossbar and in, grabbing his first goal for the club. The substitute has caused immense trouble for defences all season, and warranted the goal.

After a tough game, hardworking Harlow emerged victorious on the road, and deservedly so given Coggeshall Town’s lack of shots on target (1), and Harlow’s late glory.

Once again, the away support was terrific, and we thank you all for coming and getting behind the team. Also big thanks to Coggeshall Town for the hospitality, and good luck for the rest of your campaign.

Our focus now shifts to next Saturday’s league fixture against May and Baker at the Pardus Wealth Stadium. We hope to see you there!
