Danny Chapman’s side were victorious, after failing to take all three in their last two games, and arguably could have scored many more, had they taken all of their chances today.
Harlow begun the game in an energetic manner, with Jack Haley getting an early shot away, cutting onto his left foot, that was into the grasp of Chris Horton.
Soon after, Terrell Egbri picked Jack Haley out with a marvellous in-swinging cross, but the wide player was unable to head it on target.
In an awesome move from defence to attack, Dan Heald stepped out of defence and played the ball to Gavin Cockman. The Harlow striker showed immense vision to play in Ishaq Ameen with a first-time pass; Ishaq proceeded to run the ball down the line before cutting it across to Gavin Cockman, who slid it home to open the scoring. It was one of the finest goals of the season so far for Harlow, and the reds deservedly took the lead.
The home side were quick to find their second goal, with Jack Haley’s ball being touched down terrifically by Ishaq Ameen, who then dispatched a superb finish in the bottom-left corner.
Harlow continued to knock on the Southend Manor door, as Jack Haley took on their defence from the right-hand side, eventually hitting a left-footed shot over the bar.
Thirsty for a goal himself, Jack Haley could only be denied by Chris Horton after Terrell Egbri picked him out at the back-post. The Southend Manor goalkeeper made a sensational save.
Throughout the first half, Harlow continued to dominate, with big chances from Terrell Egbri and Gavin Cockman notably being stopped by Horton amongst other half-chances.
Southend Manor were able to get themselves back in the game, after Elenkov’s shot caused trouble for James Pellin, who could only parry it into the path of Rio Mudhar-Hedley, who smashed it past him to make it 2-1 before half-time.
In the second half, the tone of the game was much the same, with Harlow continuing to dominate and it became questionable as to how they had not scored more.
Gavin Cockman came close to grabbing his second of the game when his close range volley was smothered by Horton.
There were calls for a Harlow penalty after Chris Horton couldn’t quite claim the ball from a cross and dived into Korede Da Silva, making no contact with the ball. However, the referee did not deem this a foul.
Jack Haley missed yet another half-chance that he created emphatically for himself, before Southend Manor had their best period of the game, with Ronnie Blake narrowly missing the target, and James Pellin being forced to make a double-save after Louie Redmell was played through on goal. His first save was parried into the path of Elenkov, but the Harlow keeper was quick to react and blocked the follow-up at his near-post.
Horton continued his heroics for Southend Manor after Gavin Cockman found himself in again, and his shot was denied at the near post.
Chances from Ishaq Ameen and James Folkes went amiss before Harlow wrapped up their win, with Gavin Cockman netting his second of the game, after a fantastic Terrell Egbri cross.
Harlow were not done yet though, and after James Folkes was fouled in the box, the referee awarded Harlow a penalty. Denzel Effah stepped up, shooting bottom-left, and Horton dived the right way, preventing the left-back.
The rest of the game saw a number of chances go amiss, but Harlow emerged victorious come the final whistle, for their first time in 2025.
