Last week, in search of a second straight victory, the Hawks made the trip to Burnham-On-Crouch to face mid-table Burnham Ramblers on a sunny day by the coast. It is no secret that every game until the end of the season is absolutely ‘must-win’ and the reds did not disappoint, emerging victorious 0-3 on the day.
James Folkes came close to opening scoring early on with a leaping header from an Arley Barker corner, but the ball travelled just over the frame of the goal.
It wasn’t long though before Harlow did find their lead in rather scrappy fashion, with a top-drawer delivery from Jared Small looping into the penalty box. Both Gavin Cockman and goalkeeper Jordan Hudson jumped towards it, with Cockman getting the crucial touch (off his shoulder) to beat the keeper and provide Harlow with a first-half lead.
The early goal was practically the only notable highlight of what was a quiet first-half of action, but the Hawks were comfortably ahead 0-1 at half-time, with the home side having not necessarily posed a threat to them to that point.
Harlow continued the second half as they had done in the first period, perhaps only changing in a positive manner by upping the tempo, which led to an increase in chance creation. One of these chances was an effort from the edge of the box on the left foot of Jared Small which traversed over Hudson’s goal.
Thirsty for a goal himself, Jared Small soon did find himself on the scoresheet after a well-worked move in which Terrell Egbri cut it back to Small, who finished past Hudson through a crowd of players, doubling the lead and significantly reducing the chances of a Burnham comeback, especially as they had offered very little going forward all game.
Further efforts from Syrus Gordon and James Folkes went amiss before Harlow wrapped up the game via a goal from substitute Fred Agyemang, who was supplied by Korede Da Silva with a pin-point pass into the middle of the box. The ball hit Agyemang and found the net well, although I’m not fully sure if he meant to hit it with his left-foot, as he did, given that he swung at it with his right. Despite this, we won’t complain as it was a good finish nonetheless and killed the game off once and for all.
In the final moments, it looked like Harlow might add insult to injury, with Teddy Jones being found at the back-post by Fred Agyemang, but the centre-back was unable to direct it goalwards and the game ended 0-3 to Harlow Town.
Overall, it was a positive performance in which the Hawks wiped aside their opposition in simple but effective style. Hackney Wick still remain just behind us in the league, with a game in hand, so to win the league, it looks highly likely that we will need to win every single game for the remainder of the season.
We thank you for your fantastic continued support and our focus now turns to our cup semi-final against Ely City at home.
