Hawks Blow Away Stanway Pegasus To Move Into Round Of 16

Logan Young8 Nov - 15:58

Harlow Town defeated Stanway Pegasus 5-2 on Tuesday in the Thurlow Nunn League Challenge Cup

Having been victorious in the previous round against Haverhill Borough, Harlow Town made no mistake of sweeping aside the team that are top of the First Division North, Stanway Pegasus, netting five times in the process to progress into the round of 16.

After a fairly slow and stop-start beginning to the match, the first action came from a dangerous Denzel Effah corner, who whipped it towards the front-post, hitting the woodwork.

Having had most of the ball at the beginning, Stanway Pegasus won a free-kick in a dangerous position, very similar to the one that Felipe Melgaco converted for NW London from on Saturday. Zac Walter-Smith stepped up for Stanway, hitting it into the top-corner, and providing de ja vu from the weekend for both James Pellin and the supporters. Stanway had struck first.

However, just a matter of minutes later, the game was level after Fred Agyemang found Jack Zielinski with a great cross, and the striker directed it past Sam Felgate and into the net.

After Tom Jelliman was forced off early for Jordan Burnett, Harlow found their second goal in quick succession, this time coming from Fred Agyemang whose bullet header was simply unstoppable for Felgate after Denzel Effah whipped in the free kick.

Harlow continued to threaten with Denzel Effah storming down the left-wing and picking out Korede Da Silva with a squared pass, however the midfielder was unable to hit the target from around 12 yards out.

Fred Agyemang really should have extended the lead for the Hawks after Jack Zielinski played him in one-on-one with a beautiful pass, but Agyemang's strike lacked the composure to hit the target and subsequently flew over the crossbar.

The final action of the first period was once again a red one, with Jack Zielinski heading narrowly wide from a Teddy Jones cross, bringing what was a dominant half for Harlow to a close.

Practically immediately in the second half, Stanway Pegasus found an equaliser through Jordan Robertson after the ball was squared across the box to him, giving him a chance he almost couldn't miss.

Harlow's slow start to the half continued after Harry McDonald found some space and almost found the top-right corner with a long-distance strike, James Pellin beaten.

Danny Chapman made his first substitute of the half, with Korede Da Silva being replaced by Jack Haley.

James Pellin made a top save to keep Harlow in the game after Lee Braddon hit a shot from close-range, that Pellin clinched onto at his near-post.

Once again, Harlow found the lead and it was Jack Zielinski once again. Jordan Burnett skipped past his man on the right side, before delivering an exquisite ball across, which Jack Zielinski headed home.

Minutes later, James Folkes grabbed one for Harlow Town after Arley Barker whipped a corner into the middle of the box, which the Harlow captain headed beyond Felgate, and Harlow began to run away with it.

Stanway had a few small chances to bring one back, but failed to hit the target on both occasions, and Jack Zielinski went down the other end and almost scored a beauty after cutting inside, with his effort slightly wide of the top-right corner.

Chapman decided it was time to introduce Dan Heald, Jesse Ansen and Gavin Cockman, and they replaced James Folkes, Teddy Jones and Fred Agyemang.

Felgate made a top stop after Denzel Effah was picked out at the back-post and his shot flew at the Pegasus goalkeeper.

A few more Harlow chances were gobbled up by Felgate before a stunning strike at the back-post by Arley Barker wrapped things up once and for all in injury time. Jack Haley whipped in the cross and Arley struck it, unmarked, on the volley straight into the roof of the net, one that Felgate could do simply nothing about.

Arley's goal was the last kick of the game, and Harlow emerged as winners 5-2. We thank you for your continued support and hope to see you at Saturday's game, at home to Enfield Borough in the league.
