Gavin Cockman. Forever One Of Our Own

Logan Young3 Nov 2023 - 19:40

Gavin Cockman has announced his retirement from football with immediate effect.

It is with great regret that we have to announce that Gavin Cockman has retired from football as of today. Gavin’s huge impact on Harlow Town Football Club cannot be understated. A local lad, growing up in Harlow and playing football for most of his life. He was destined to play for the Hawks and we are ever-thankful for Gavin’s contribution to the club.

In a heartfelt message, Gavin wrote “Hello Harlow Town Fans. For those of you who know will know how hard this has been to write. As most of you are aware, I’ve been playing most games in a lot of discomfort this season and I’ve found it hard to stay injury free…” “Sadly, after having my MRI scan results back, it’s far from good news. I have more damage to my back which is connected to my 2 previous back operations, so sadly the decision has been made for me that I have to retire from football as of now…” “I really didn’t think I would be having to do this this season as I was just getting started but it’s too dangerous to carry on. I just want to take this opportunity to say from my heart a massive thank you to you all for the love and support you have given me in such a short space of time, it’s been incredible and I will always be thankful. I look forward to still seeing you all at the games let’s get behind the team and see the season through together…
10 Gavin Cockman”

Gavin Cockman is an incredible footballer and person, who made his mark on many clubs over the years, scoring plenty of goals in the process. Just last season, he helped Enfield FC to win promotion. He has become a player that is loved and adored by all fans of Harlow Town Football Club and as has been said many times this season, Gavin is one of our own.

Gavin made 17 appearances for the club and scored 14 goals, assisting 6 times. It didn’t take him long at all to settle in, scoring on his second game for the club against Bishops Stortford Swifts. Ever since, Gavin hasn’t stopped scoring is one of the reasons why we’re challenging for the league this season. He very quickly became a fan favourite at the club, with the fans chanting his name and his hat-trick against NW London will be a moment that we will never forget, and we’re sure that Gavin won’t either.

We are incredibly thankful for everything that Gavin has done for the club; a true ambassador, he has regularly attended youth matches and has gained a love for Harlow Town in his 5 months here. We are disappointed that things have ended in this fashion, as we’re sure you would’ve continued scoring and becoming a legend of this club, but it’s important that you prioritise health and your wellbeing, so we wish you all the best in the future and look forward to seeing you at the games going forward. You will always be welcome at the club and are forever one of our own.

Thank you so much, Gavin Cockman.
