Alfie Babb Recognised at Civic Awards

Ian Barham2 Mar 2021 - 10:35

Harlow Town FC are delighted that Alfie Babb was recognised at the recent Harlow Civic Awards.

Alfie is a hard working, inspirational young man, with a passion for Harlow, football and youth development that shines through in everything he does.
- Councillor Mark Ingall

The Club's Head of Youth Development was nominated for the Sports and Culture Award by Councillor Mark Ingall for his commitment to Harlow’s football and youth development.

In his nomination, Cllr Ingall said: "Having become Harlow Town FC’s Head of Youth Development at just 18 years old, Alfie has been instrumental in encouraging the football club to reach out to the local community, running assemblies in local primary and secondary schools, promoting the importance of leading an active, healthy lifestyle, hosting indoor futsal tournaments, as well as encouraging Harlow schools to utilise the stadium to host sports days and other events.

"Alfie is a hard working, inspirational young man, with a passion for Harlow, football and youth development that shines through in everything he does."

Alfie played for Harlow Town FC as a youth himself, before coaching his own Under 8's team at the age of 16. He then took on the role of Head of Youth Development, overseeing the Harlow Academy, and has been the driving force in offering youth provision to the children of Harlow and the surrounding areas.

Under his stewardship, Mini Hawks - the football sessions aimed at 5 to 9 years old - has flourished, providing an opportunity for children to develop their football and social skills in a fun and affordable setting.

It only takes a short conversation with Alfie to understand his passion for the town, the Football Club, and Youth Football in general, and we are delighted that this passion has been recognised.

Everyone at the Club would like to congratulate Alfie on this award, and thank him for his continued service to the town and it's Football Club.

Last summer, David Square caught up with Alfie as part of the My Harlow My Life series. If you missed it, you can re-watch it on Harlow Town FC TV here.
